Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I have been away from social media for, what feels like forever.

I took a small break to clear my head and enjoy the last month of the year. I enjoyed my break so much, I did an entire re-read of Harry Potter and really loved it.

I have a review for you all, for the first book I read in 2019. It was a great read to start the year off with, and I’m excited to talk about it.

Also, I’d love to wish this novel a very Happy Book Birthday, since it came out today!

I’d like to thank Penguin Random House Canada for sending this book my way!

How To: Get Out of a Reading Slump

Hello everyone.

As we all know, I have been caught up in a horrible reading slump that has taken over my life. It makes me feel horrible not reading books as much as I used to, and I’m really sad that it’s not completely gone yet.

This post is going to be filled with ways that I have tried to help me get rid of my reading slump. Some have been more helpful than others, but all are attempts that I have made.

I hope you all enjoy this post, and if you’re in a reading slump I wish you all the best to beat it!

1. Watch BookTube Videos

This is an obvious choice for me. I always have the strongest urge to buy a book or read a book after someone has talked about it and how much they enjoyed it.

Hearing someone talk about a book that you own and haven’t read yet brings upon the strongest urge to pick that book up and find out why they enjoyed the book.

2. Go to a bookstore

This also seems like a very obvious choice for me.

Going to bookstores always makes me have the strongest urge to read all the books that I see and have. In addition to getting the urge to read, going to bookstores also increases my likelihood to buy a new book, and that increases the likelihood that I will read said book.

3. Re-read a favourite

Re-reading one of my favourite books always makes me want to read more, especially when it’s a series and you like all the other books in the series as well.

I tried this earlier on with When Breathe Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, and it didn’t really work. I think this is because this novel is a non-fiction and a little too intense for me to read when in a reading slump, but I would definitely recommend something like Harry Potter or something along those lines to help you get back into the groove of things.

4. Listen to an audiobook

This is a nice way to get a slight break from reading physical novels, but still be reading something. I personally have not done this because I’m currently enjoying listening to podcast’s on my drive, but I do think that this would be a great substitute for reading.

5. If you’re not feeling it, don’t do it.

This last one, I think, is the most important tip for anyone who is in a reading slump.

If you do not feel like reading. Don’t force yourself to do it.

All this will do is make you, first, hate the book you’re reading, and second, make your reading slump even worse.

If you’re not interested in picking up a book, concentrate on what you are interested in doing and don’t make yourself feel guilty (I do it all the time) for not reading all the books on your TBR.

That is about all I currently have for tips on getting out of a reading slump. I hope you guys enjoyed.

I’d also like to say thanks to all of my followers for being so patient with me as I suffer through this reading (and writing) slump, I promise I’m getting out of it!!

Thanks so much for reading, don’t forget to follow my blog as well as all my other social media accounts linked in the side bar.

Until next time,
