August Wrap Up

Hey everyone!

Welcome back to my blog! I cannot believe that August is over already, the months seem to be flying by, and it’s honestly really disorienting to think that the end of the year is only a couple months away!

Personally, I’m getting very stressed out because I have my certification test in a month and I don’t know how difficult I’ll find it, failing is my worst nightmare!

I’m now taking a break from studying to share all the books I managed to finish in the month of August!

Let’s get into it!

Total: 12 books
Pages: 4,771 Pages

☼ A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir ☼ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ :star
This novel was my favourite of the entire series, I found that there was a lot of character growth and plot progression throughout it and it really made for an interesting and fun reading experience. Additionally I really enjoyed seeing more of Helene and seeing how her storyline played out.

☼ The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang ☼ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was an incredible read for me, I listened to the majority of the novel through my library, but nearing the end I had to read because of how much was going on. This novel is definitely not for the faint of heart, there is so much action and war throughout this novel. Rin was an incredibly strong female protagonist to get to know, and seeing the ways she dealt with issues that arose constantly throughout her plot line was very interesting.

☼ The Forest Queen by Betsy Cornwell ☼ ⭐
This novel unfortunately didn’t live up to my expectations of it. I was expecting something super whimsical with incredibly written characters and an interesting plot, and I didn’t get any of that. There was just a lot of information I didn’t think I needed and a lot of characters that felt unnecessary.

☼ Crazy Rich Asians (series) by Kevin Kwan ☼ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Go pick this entire series up and read it. These books were just so fucking incredible, I can’t even begin to explain how fantastically written the plot and characters were. I sincerely felt like I was a part of this insane family/group and was right there along for the ride. Kevin Kwan is a fantastic author who really did amazingly to show the intricacies of these rich Asian individuals. Also, the movie was an incredible cinematic piece that I truly think everyone should experience once or twice.

☼ To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (Series) by Jenny Han ☼ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This series was also one that I picked up this month in preparation for the Netflix movie coming out. Of course the hype was correct and this series was so mouth watering and addictive. It’s a romance novel that you truly lose yourself in. Lara Jean is a character I’m sure all girls could relate to when in their teen years. I highly recommend picking this series up if you haven’t already, if you have doubts of liking it, just do it and thank me later. Also watch the movie cause it was just so adorable!

☼ The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han ☼ ⭐ ⭐
This novel from Jenny Han is an older novel, and I definitely did not love it as much as the To All the Boys series. It just seems very juvenile and not well written at all, maybe the next book gets better, but at this point I don’t see myself picking them up. I’m very happy to say that Jenny Han’s writing has improved immensely since this novel.

☼ The Wicked King by Holly Black ☼ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this novel from Hatchette and I couldn’t be more thankful. I really enjoyed reading this sequel to The Cruel Prince. It started right where the previous novel left off and just built upon the characters we loved from the first novel. Of course the relationship between Jude and Caden is one that we get to see a lot more of, which was very enjoyable. Additionally we get to see Jude grow in ways we hadn’t seen in the first novel. All in all this sequel was a great read!

☼ The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson ☼ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This conclusion to The Remnant Chronicles was one that I took way too long to pick up. I really enjoyed seeing my favourite characters again for one last adventure. It was interesting to see the love triangle progress into this novel and I was truly surprised with the ending.

That concludes my August Wrap Up! I hope you all enjoyed!

Thank you so much for reading and don’t forget to follow my blog as well as my other social media sites linked in the side bar!

  1. Yay! Awesome wrap up. So many Asian-inspired fantasy and contemporary reads. That’s awesome. I’m hoping to complete The Poppy War for my September TBR. I started 125 pages already. I’m hooked!

  2. It looks like you had a pretty great reading month! If you didn’t love The summer I turned pretty, though, I wouldn’t recommend finishing the series. While I enjoyed it, it gets frustrating, and a lot of the characters do pretty stupid things, lol. Like you, I thought To All The Boys I Loved Before was much better!

  3. Good luck on the certification test! I felt really similar about the NJ Bar (and the upcoming PA Bar for that matter), but study up, do your best, and see how it goes. 🙂 And don’t forget to take breaks for fun reading!

    1. Thank you! Today is my first official day of my study schedule and it’s definitely very hard to transition into studying long hours, but it’s one month of this suffering for something that’ll change my life, so it’s worth it!

  4. I’ve only ever actually read the first TATBILB book because the summaries of the other two didn’t interest me that much though I loved the first one but I may have to give them a go. I love your blog btw, it’s so pretty!!

  5. What an amazing reading month! I am so excited to get my hands on The Poppy War, I have heard some amazing things, but I definitely am going to leave that one for a month when I have a lot of time because it was a HUGE book. I am super jealous of your ARC of The Wicked King, the Australian publisher isn’t getting ARCs so I cried a bit on the inside when they let me know. I am glad you liked it, can’t wait to get my hands on it!
