Summer Skin by Kirsty Eagar

Welcome back for another of my, written in the middle of the night during a night shift because otherwise I can’t find time, blog posts!

This one is going to be for the novel Summer Skin by Kirsty Eagar! This novel was sent to me by the wonderful Raincoast Books here in Vancouver, BC! I was very excited to receive this novel and I definitely couldn’t wait to read it, especially during the long cute summer contemporary binge that I went through!

Receiving this book from Raincoast doesn’t effect my opinion of this book one bit, all my thoughts are my own!

Alright, let’s get into it!

Goodreads Rating: 3.79/5
Pages: 352 Pages
Publisher: Allen & Unwin
Published: May 29th, 2018 (US release)
Genre: New Adult, Romance and Contemporary

Jess Gordon is out for revenge. Last year the jocks from Knights College tried to shame her best friend. This year she and a hand-picked college girl gang are going to get even.

The lesson: don’t mess with Unity girls.

The target: Blondie, a typical Knights stud, arrogant, cold . . . and smart enough to keep up with Jess.

A neo-riot grrl with a penchant for fanning the flames meets a rugby-playing sexist pig – sworn enemies or two people who happen to find each other when they’re at their most vulnerable?

It’s all Girl meets Boy, Girl steals from Boy, seduces Boy, ties Boy to a chair and burns Boy’s stuff. Just your typical love story.

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

This novel was one that caught me in the middle of my, I love contemporary romances, binge and I am so glad that I read it when I did. It was perfect timing and the mood that I was in made me enjoy it so much more than I would have if I was in the fantasy mood!

The writing in this book was okay, it wasn’t the best writing I’ve ever seen, but I don’t really expect that from these romance/contemporary novels, I’m too busy squealing whenever someone did something cute or romantic.

This novel was definitely one that kind of surprised me with all the sex and explicit scenes that took place, not that I didn’t enjoy them. I would definitely say that the “New Adult” designation is very accurate for this novel, so anyone who is young, or just doesn’t want to read scenes with a lot of sex, maybe don’t pick up this novel.

The characters in this novel were fun to follow. Obviously, like any romance novel, the protagonist makes choices that makes you want to wring their neck, but that also adds to the charm of it. I thoroughly enjoyed the enemies to lovers trope that this novel was, it’s always romantic to see two absolutely different people come together and fall in love.

It was an experience trying to get used to the Aussie-ness that was in this novel. I definitely wasn’t used to some of the terms used, but it’s very easy to catch on, so don’t avoid the book for that reason!

Additionally, this novel has a huge girl power aspect to it, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the group of girls build each other up and love each other!

All in all, this novel made me want to move to Australia, live in a dorm with some amazing girls, and fall in love with a hot rugby player who I hated at first… too much to ask?

It was a read that really gave me what I was looking for and I was able to fly through the pages because there was always something new and delicious (weird word to use, I know) happening.

Pick this book up if you’re looking for a hot and sexy summer read.

Alright everyone, that concludes my review for Summer Skin by Kirsty Eagar!
