The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green

Hello everyone!

Today I have a review for The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green and I am oh so excited to write this review for this amazing novel!

Ever since I heard the premise for this novel I have been so very excited to pick it up, so I’d like to thank Penguin Random House for providing me with an ARC of this novel! It is now out and I can’t wait to get my hands on a hardcover of this novel!

Let’s jump into the review!

Goodreads: 3.76/5
Pages: 400 Pages
Publisher: Viking
Published: May 1st, 2018
Genre: Fantasy and YA

A princess, a traitor, a hunter and a thief. Four teenagers with the fate of the world in their hands. Four nations destined for conflict.

In Brigant, Princess Catherine prepares for a loveless political marriage arranged by her brutal and ambitious father. In Calidor, downtrodden servant March seeks revenge on the prince who betrayed his people. In Pitoria, feckless Edyon steals cheap baubles for cheaper thrills as he drifts from town to town. And in the barren northern territories, thirteen-year-old Tash is running for her life as she plays bait for the gruff demon hunter Gravell.

As alliances shift and shatter, and old certainties are overturned, our four heroes find their past lives transformed and their futures inextricably linked by the unpredictable tides of magic and war. Who will rise and who will fall? And who will claim the ultimate prize?

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

This novel is one that I finished in the span of two days during work. I get 2 hour breaks during my night shifts and I found myself unable to put this book down for the entirety of those two breaks!

This novel follows 4 different perspectives, which was a very interesting experience. I do think that I would have been quite happy to just have Catherine be our main POV. Of course it was interesting to see all of our characters partake in their adventures and be able to see them all converge into one finite place.

I thought that the premise of this novel was so unique in its own way, and definitely drew me in very quickly.

The fast paced nature of this novel also did wonders for how quickly I was able to finish this novel and how quickly I was able to fall in love with each of the characters.

Catherine was a very interesting female protagonist to follow. Being a princess she had a lot of weight on her shoulders from her tyrant king father and her sinister brother. It was frustrating to watch her being mistreated and mistrusted throughout this novel from her family and to watch her be sold to a prince from another kingdom. Despite all of the horrors that Catherine lived through, she was always brave and badass. She took everything with a stride whilst maintaining her princess like attitude and grace.

Personally, I thought this novel was exactly what I wanted it to be. It had the fantasy element that always draws me in, the characters that didn’t fail to interest me with their stories and decisions, and the world that was so incredibly interesting and fun. I can not wait to read the next novel in this series, especially since now that the world has been established, it’s obvious that the next book will be filled with action and incredible plot.

All in all, I highly recommend that everyone read this novel. It is such a fun and quick read, and I’m sure you’ll all love it as much as I did!

That concludes my review for The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green!
