The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

Hello everyone!

I’ve had a spurt of reading energy (mostly because I was procrastinating studying for my midterm) and finished Stalking Jack the Ripper AND started The Heart of Betrayal yesterday! This reading slump I’ve had (for like two/three months) has been hell, and all I’ve been able to do is listen to audiobooks while I drive.

Finally I’ve kind of got a slight reading routine going and I’m very happy about it. Therefore, today I’m bringing a review for The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson.

This novel has been one I have been putting off for quite a while now, mainly because I bought the paperback versions of the first two novels and I wanted to wait until the paperback of the last book came out – which I don’t even know when that is anymore.

Anywho, I’m just going to jump into my review for The Heart of Betrayal now!

Can’t add this because they will be spoilers!!

My Thoughts:
This was an exceptional sequel to The Kiss of Deception. When I read The Kiss of Deception I stated that the entirety of the novel seemed to be so slow with minimal plot, and then nearing the back half of the novel I felt myself get more and more intrigued into the storyline – and excited to see what came next.

I definitely did get what I was looking for in this novel. It contained quite a bit more meat to the story and there were intriguing plot lines and some wonderful new characters.

The main thing I’d really like to mention is the love triangle – throughout the last novel I didn’t really enjoy the love triangle all that much. I’m not much of a love triangle lover, and this novel is no exception. I felt like the man I wanted her to be with wasn’t the man that she wanted to be with, and it was quite frustrating to see things going a different way from what I felt like the writing was pushing.

Additionally, I also thought there were quite a few of unrealistic plot points that went on in this novel. It just seemed very unlikely that some of these things would happen, and that really took away from the novel for me. I found myself holding my breath for something to happen – that should have happened – but never did. I’m just very doubtful some of these things would happen realistically and that was a bit frustrating.

Despite those two points, this novel was significantly better than the first novel. I did enjoy myself and got through it quite quickly. I’m also definitely interesting in finishing off the series – I need to know what happens!

Anywho, that concludes my review for The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson.

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to follow my blog as well as my other social media sites linked in the side bar!

Until next time,
