City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Hey guys!

This book is old. It’s old and I read it a long long long time ago.

I decided to do a re-read because I want to finally get to Lady Midnight, and I don’t really remember much from any of Clare’s writing.

I figured that since I am kind of reading this novel with “fresh eyes” I might as well write a review about my feelings towards it. Which weren’t amazing.

Plot:
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I’d like to say I absolutely hated this novel, but it really wasn’t that bad. I know a lot of people have issues with it, and I totally get those issues.

Clary wasn’t a loveable character at all, she was naive and annoying and stubborn and I didn’t like her all that much, but that doesn’t mean I hated the actual story.

I started reading this book through the audiobook, I figured I’d take my time and just listen to the book while I drove to and from school, I ended up reading after getting halfway because I was too impatient.

I remembered some bits and pieces from the book, but it was surprising how much I’d forgotten.

I forgot how much I loves Magnus Bane, he was hilarious and in my opinion one of the best characters of this story. Alec was douchey as always, but I didn’t really mind it because I hated Clary with him, and Isabelle was okay. Annoying at times, but I didn’t hate her all that much. Jace was superior, I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. Luke was adorable and Simon was such a nuisance.

The characters in this book weren’t all that greatly written, but I found myself interested with the storyline time and time again, and that’s what saved the book for me.

There were a couple moments in the book that I wished weren’t there, or didn’t last as long as they did. It felt like an overkill at times and I didn’t enjoy that.

All in all, I didn’t mind reading this book, but this is the last time I re-read it in a long long time.

That concludes my review for City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to follow my blog as well as my other social media sites linked in the side bar.

Until next time,

  1. I’ve thought about rereading this one a few times but I always decide against it because I don’t think I’ll enjoy it as much as I originally did… I have reread The Infernal Devices and those are still pretty great!

  2. I always want to give this book another shot to see if I would like it better. Maybe in the future. But, I do love a lot of the majority of Cassie’s works and am in love with The dark Artifices!

  3. ! I have read them all, including Lady Midnight but want to do a re-read of ALL OF THEM before getting to Lord of Shadows… Yeah, maybe I’m crazy!
