How To: Build a New Blog

Hello my loves!

Today I thought I’d write a post that I feel all new bloggers would benefit from. I started my blog on July 7th, 2017 and it is now July 16th, 2017. That is 9 days of consistently writing blog posts as well as promoting my blog. In this blog post I am going to share some stats from my blog – please don’t judge me!

Stats:
Followers: 175
Views: 1,263

Visitors: 454
Likes: 199

Let’s jump right into it!!

Step 1 – Find a Site That Works for You

This step is super important because you need to want to go on your blog and write a post – but that can’t happen if the site that you chose (WordPress, Blogger, Wix?…) isn’t user friendly.

I, personally, believe that if you’re a new blogger WordPress is the way to go. WordPress is super simple to use and it also has the added benefit of making it easy for all your followers to keep up with your blog posts as well as follow you!

Step 2 – Blog Name

I think your blogs name is very important towards the success of your blog.

Make it something that relates to your blog so people understand what your blog is about before visiting it, and also have it be very personal to you!

Step 3 – The Theme

This to me is almost the most important thing towards building a good blog – other than the posts themselves.

The theme of your blog must be easy to navigate, but also represent who you are. If you don’t want to visit your site, no one else will!

WordPress’ only downfall, in my opinion, is the fact that you cannot customize your theme very much unless you pay. This fact was one reason I had a hard time switching over from Blogger, but after getting over the fact that I won’t have the most amazing looking blog, I was able to move forward and make it the best it could be without spending money.

I am someone who likes a blog to be very simple and to the point. I don’t like unnecessary pictures or decorations – simplicity is key (for me). Therefore I chose to make my blog very white and simple, with very few widgets. Only the one’s I felt were necessary for my reader.

Step 4 – Other Social Media Sites

This is one very important factor in gaining followers and view on your blog. It’s important to create a social media site that has the ability to reach a lot of people – but also make it easy for you to promote your blog posts.

I chose Twitter to be my main Social Media site that I would work off of. In addition to that you can also go to Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr…

Personally, I am too lazy to work towards creating beautiful pictures for Instagram so I chose not to go that route, but you should do whatever works for you!

Once you have this site. Promote, promote, promote.

Use this to tell other’s about your blog posts, talk to other bloggers about anything and everything, and also build a following on there so you can reach even more people so they can also check out your blog!

I started my Twitter the same day I started my blog (July 7th) and I started off by following all the book bloggers/booktubers that I could find. I would write about my new blog posts and I would also just talk to as many people as I can – building contacts and friends!

As of July 7th I have 434 followers on Twitter.

Step 5 – The Actual Posts

This is where you can do whatever you want. Write about whatever you want and things that you love! I chose to make my blog about books and reading because that’s something that allows me to de-stress, and that’s what this blog is for me.

You can make your blog about whatever you wish – there are so many people out there and they’re bound to love the same thing as you!

The first weeks of having your blog I suggest you post as much as you can. This will ensure that more people will go and look at your blog and also that you’ll have a well established blog with a lot of posts – earlier on. To do this I would suggest starting your blog when you know you’ll have time to write and post. Don’t start it when you’re super busy and unable to commit to it because that might lead to you forgetting about it and forgetting why you did it = quitting.

Don’t forget to make your posts clear and to the point. There’s nothing worse than someone writing too much and overwhelming you with information when all you wanted was a quick and easy read.

Also, talk about relevant things. This is for people who want to get a big following early on. The more you talk about things that are relevant right now – the more people will want to read your blog.

The Gist:
– Make lot’s of posts
– Clear and to the point posts
– Don’t write too much!
– Talk about relevant things!!

Step 6 – Communicate With Other Bloggers
(ON THEIR BLOGS)

This step is kind of an extra step, but something that I feel is pretty important. Communicating with other bloggers (on their blog) consists of commenting and liking their posts whenever they post them.

This is an important step because it just adds on to the promoting of your blog – but also it’s nice to have friends in the blogging community that you can talk to about blogging and have someone who actually understands what you’re talking about!

Having someone in your corner can really help with fighting those “no one likes my blog, why am I even doing this” feelings that everyone has.

Step 7 – HAVE FUN

The main reason that you made a blog is to have fun and do what you love – and you should do just that.

Don’t worry about the followers and the likes and the comments and just enjoy writing and sharing your ideas. It makes the followers and the likes and the comments you do get to much more significant and important because you know it’s because they honestly do love what you’re putting out there.

Don’t stress too much about your blog. Let it be what you wanted it to be and enjoy it.

That is all I have for my tips towards building a new blog! I hope you enjoyed and if you have any additional tips please comment them down below!

Thank you so much for reading and don’t forget to follow this blog as well as my other social media accounts!

Until next time,

  4. These are great tips! I started on Blogger 3 years ago, but if I had to do it again I would go to WordPress. Trying to move all my posts there is just too complicated for me! Congrats on the success. Can’t wait to read more on your blog!

  5. You had a much better start to blogging than me! I agree with your comment about Instagram as well; I don’t understand why our Instagram’s should have a “theme” because at the end of the day, it’s to help towards our blog and pretty photos may be all well and good, but sometimes their actual content may not be great xx Please do some more advice posts I loved this one! xx

  6. Wow, girl! Congratulations on those blog stats!! 👏🏼I’ve been blogging for a year and a half, and I’m not even to 400 followers yet. Lol

Anyway, these are actually really good tips that help not just new bloggers, but even those of us (like me) who have been blogging for a while. 😄 Consistency is key for blogging, and it’s something that I definitely need to keep working on.

I look forward to reading more of your posts and seeing your blog continue to grow. ☺️

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked the tips – consistency really is key and I think that if you settled down one night a week and just pre-wrote a couple posts maybe that would help?

    1. Exactly, if you’re always worrying and stressing it’s going to make you start to hate writing in your blog and that’s the whole reason you started!
